Among the chaos...a moment of clarity...

August was a BLUUUUUUUUR. and now we're a week into September. Can someone just slOOOOw this baby down for just a minute....PLEEEEASE! hahaha Not likely, I know.

I try to catch my breath and take a look forward and back after a big event, like the August MKT Place Show and all those 10 painting days I did throughout the month while the show was up. With my Annual Open Studio bearing down on me in just 2 weeks...I don't have a lot of time to reflect, but I still feel it's essential.

Maybe it's a hangover from school days, but September seems to bring a change of pace along with the change of season. My Open Studio, also helps remind me to take stock of where I am in my year, what I still want to accomplish AND what I need to work on.

It is all a never ending process of assessing and readjusting and honestly, I often get caught up in the day to day tasks. Painting and being creative too easily gets shoved to the background as prepping panels for paint, updating the website, photographing paintings, framing, show applications, building an email list, keeping up with social media let alone the newest, shiniest, best-est marketing fad this week scream for attention.

But, one thing I am consistently reminded of when plein air painting and was while painting in Wilmington last month is...YES, creating paintings is a blast for me and I DO enjoy that but what I LOVE is sharing the paintings. When that timid stranger asks if they can see what I am doing and their face lights up when they look, or when someone says some wonderfully encouraging words as they pass, or when I have a conversation with someone who once did art and is stirred to maybe pick up that pencil or paint brush again after we chat a bit .....or I'm have a show and someone is standing before a painting and excited by it, moved by it, Wow... it is all amazing!!

There are just so many positive exchanges that happen around the paintings. That is how art connects us, how art unites us and that is what moves me to continue on.
