The textures of this old factory building and these huge ventilating chimneys spoke to me on this day. This mill backed up to the historic family property and the mill property is considered a liability so we couldn’t get inside the fencing. All this made views a bit limited but there were still some great options….you just had to look a little harder.
I helped coordinate the painters for this plein air event with Art Partners in Coatesville, PA and Luken Steel who manufactured the base “trees” for the World Trade Center. Twenty+ painters painted for 2 weekends around the historic family property and the mill that produced the steel trees. This steel plant actually made many other significant industrial contributions and is the site of The National Iron and Steel Heritage Museum. Amazing what you can learn while out painting!
