Urban Wonder
I wanted to keep this painting playful. If you look at the pictures you’ll see there was a lot more going on in the initial stages. I think that was confusing me. There was some green and yellow but it seemed a little cliché…red and green… so after staring at this thing for weeks and making many small moves… one day I just got the paint out and I started making some bolder moves.
Another one in this series has a pink which I really love so I incorporated that. I also wanted to keep the strong vertical and the diagonal and so I just started responding to the parts I knew I liked and built from there.
I love the texture in this piece and I feel where it landed is exactly where it needed to land in the end. There is a feeling of playfulness and wonder that fits the series and this time of year.
