The backs of buildings fascinate me. They have so much more character than the manicured facades….and so this scene spoke to me. I had been looking at it quite a while before trying this painting. The monochromatic palette was intimidating and the straight on view I was not sure about but once I embraced both challenges, I had fun with the painting.
