Original plein air urban landscape oil painting of back street. I really love taking these ordinary urban scenes and turning them into vibrant, energetic art.
Original plein air urban landscape oil painting of back street. This was not quite the painting I had set out to paint. There was a large sign to the left that attracted me at first but this dormant tree with it’s delicate crazy branches against the light gray sky and that contrasting straight pole kinda took over the painting. That happens sometimes and I find the best thing to do is go with the flow.
Working en plein air or “in the open air” is a wonderful way to interpret your environment. My goal is always to create the experience of that place at that time rather than record it like a photograph would.
