First State Bowling
Modern urban landscape oil painting utilizing urban scene many of us see everyday. Billboard, poles and wires AND a bit of natural green summer foliage make an interesting geometric composition full of vitality and energy. I love painting these scenes!
Original plein air urban landscape oil painting of iconic bowling alley billboard in North Delaware. My modern take of landscape painting consists of an urban scene such as this one with a billboard, cement parking lot, poles and wires AND a bit of nature too with the lush green summer foliage. Working en plein air or “in the open air” is a wonderful way to interpret your environment. My brushwork is loose and impressionistic as I do like to work quickly and express the scene I am looking at. My goal is to create the feeling of that place at that time rather than record it like a photograph would.
This painting was one of many I have done in this area. It’s just a couple miles from my home. I am attracted to urban scenes that so many of us pass by every day but don’t really see. The geometry of the vertical poles and horizontal wires makes for a fascinating painting and captivates my eye.
I continue to work on and develop this subject in my painting.
