Original plein air urban landscape oil painting of Philadelphia street. I Love urban landscapes and traditionally un-picturesque scenes like this captivate me.
Original plein air urban landscape oil painting of Philadelphia. I went out painting with friends who picked this locale and was absolutely floored when I saw this scene. This traditionally un-picturesque scene got my blood pumping with all it’s visual clutter… the multiple verticals in cool cement and steel in opposition to the warm heavy brick building receding down the street. Love, love love it!
Working en plein air or “in the open air” is a wonderful way to interpret the environment. My goal is always to create the experience of that place, at that time rather than record it like a photograph would.
My brushwork is loose and impressionistic. I do like to work quickly and express the scene I am looking at. I enjoy working pencil drawing into the wet paint to add details as well as a different mark to the painting. This is my way of combining painting and drawing into one finished completely original art work.
