Man and Nature
Original plein air urban landscape oil painting interprets a scene many of us see everyday. Trees, bushes, a path, with utility poles towering, powerlines draping all against a wonderful blue sky by Delaware artist Sarah Baptist.
Original plein air urban landscape oil paintings are one of my joys to create. My modern take of landscape painting consists of scenes such as this one with urban elements coinciding with nature. I’m attracted to the color and soft textures of the foliage, in contrast to the angular geometry of the man-made poles and wires. And then that beautiful blue sky…..Ahhhhh.
Working en plein air or “in the open air” is a wonderful way to interpret your environment. My goal is to create the feeling of a place at that moment rather than record it like a photograph would. My brushwork is loose and impressionistic since I do like to work quickly and express the scene I am looking at. I enjoy working pencil drawing into the wet paint to add details as well as a different mark to the painting. This is my way of combining painting and drawing into one finished completely original art work.
I am attracted to urban scenes that so many of us pass by every day but don’t really see. This particular area is a state park just a few miles from my home. It is a wonderful area with many urban landscape possibilities which I continue to work on and develop in my painting.
