Original urban landscape oil painting of downtown Wilmington, Delaware could be anywhere downtown USA. A common scene interpreted in contemporary style and color. Brushwork is loose and impressionistic.
This painting is one of many done in the Wilmington area, since it’s just a couple miles from my home in northern Delaware. I am attracted to urban scenes that so many of us pass by every day but don’t really see. The geometry of the vertical buildings, the poles and the criss-crossing wires set against the open, clear sky captures my eye and makes me want to paint THAT scene. I continue to work on and develop this subject in my painting
Painted plein air. Plein Air is a painting done outside rather than in a studio. The term comes from the French term en plein air, meaning ‘in the open air’. The Impressionists were particularly interested in the influence of changing light outdoors on color and form. Painting in this manner lends itself to being expressionistic as you respond to the look, feel, smell and sounds that surround you.
